Anavar As A Slimming Aid

In 2001 , US endocrinologists, financed partly by the government and partly by anavar manufacturer Savient, studied the effects of modest doses of anavar on elderly men and women. The researchers wanted to establish how effective and safe anavar really is. Although the study involved non-active men who were above 40, it did produce information that is interesting for slimmers .

The study showed that men gain muscle mass and lose fat mass if they take anavar for 12 weeks, but also that 12 weeks further on the muscles built up have disappeared again. But but the fat that was lost stays away. Most of the benefit of a course of anavar is derived in the first six weeks of the course. So the researchers are in favour of short 6 week courses of anavar at 40mg per day.

So maybe oxandrolone has more potential as a diet drug than as a muscle builder.

These days anavar is not only produced by Savient , but also by pharmaceutical companies in Thailand such as SB Labs , LA Pharma , Unigen Life Sciences , British Dragon , Asia Pharma and Global Anabolics.

Steroids use by teenagers in the UK becoming the norm

An expert on the use of anabolic steroid use in the United Kingdom , Doctor Jim McVeigh of Liverpool University says the number of users is certainly a lot more than official figures suggest . The list of users is growing vastly  not just bodybuilders and doormen are taking steroids , it’s spreading amongst other members of the community to lawyers , teachers and other professionals who are after the quick fix of the perfect body.

The average age of steroids users was always around the 35 mark , but now it is spreading to teenagers and even pensioners who are not interested in looking like Mister Universe  but would like a more slimmer and muscular looking physique.

A spokesman for the drugs charity Turning Point , Roy Jones says most needle exchange programmes in the United Kingdom are seeing a lot more steroid users than heroin addicts.

According to an official survey in 2009 over 250,000 people in the UK admitted to using anabolic steroids or HGH (Human Growth Hormone) but most experts admit the figure is much higher , and growing every day . It seems that taking steroids , especially amongst the younger generation in the UK , is considered to be a normal thing to do if you are seeking to enhance your image.

Medical professionals express concern in UK about blaming violent crime on steroids

GP Robert Dawson, who set up the Drugs in Sport Clinic and User Support, in Chester-le-Street, UK has been studying the use of anabolic steroids as a performance enhancing drug for more than 16 years, and has said that research into its effects is notoriously difficult.

He said: “No real studies have actually said that the use of anabolic steroids leads to that kind of violence. The risks aren’t fully worked out.”

But Dr Dawson is quick to highlight the grey area which surrounds the issue. He said: “With the long-term effects there’s a lot of sensationalism that goes on around it. How many people have died from the use of anabolic steroids in 10 years? Only two.”

He said major problems were actually physical rather than mental.

“The major problem they give users is acne,” said Dr Dawson. “But the main problem is to your heart, it alters the cholesterol levels in your body which may increase your chances of coronary artery disease, but there are other factors such as family history.”

The difficulty facing research into the long and short-term effects of the drug is partly down to the “placebo effect” in many trials. Numerous past studies have shown that patients suffering from aggressive outbursts and feelings of being wound up were in fact given the placebo drug, which casts a shadow over any assumptions about aggression.

Dr Dawson said: “There are conflicting studies. If somebody has road rage, we don’t blame the car and with ‘roid rage’ there’s a similar thing there.

More Ordinary People In The UK Using Steroids For Image Enhancement

Most people know steroids as athletic performance enhancement drugs or something that bodybuilders and doormen use .However, a new trend is surfacing throughout the UK, a growing number of ordinary citizens are now using steroids to achieve slim and appealing figures. Due to recent research confirming a heightened rate of obesity in the UK, average people are using the drug to avoid gaining weight.

Many young men especially are using steroids to build muscle and meet image standards created by the media, as well as pop culture. Studies show that normal citizens using the drug for purposes of vanity are as young as 16-years-old. Most users purchase steroids legally online without prescription, or from illegal drug dealers who have the substances imported from countries such as Thailand.

Steroids are now categorized as class C drugs. One specific type of anabolic steroid is clenbuterol. Clenbuterol, and other anabolic steroids similar to it (HGH for example), increase the normal amount of testosterone found in the body, which provides muscles with the capability to absorb more protein and grow. Users of anabolic steroids inject the drug directly into their body using a needle, or orally consume pills. The drug is legal to have in possession; however, it is illegal to sell. Normal side effects include mood swings, increased aggression, balding, depression, abnormal breast growth, liver damage, HIV or hepatitis (due to dirty needles), heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems, as well as infertility.

In 2007 it was confirmed that the use of steroids in the UK was officially on par with heroin. Researchers estimated that atleast 250,000 people were using steroids in the UK, and the estimate has only been increasing since.

Younger people using the drug to increase their physique aren’t willing to quit anytime soon for several reasons. First, users are perceiving that steroid use is a healthy lifestyle. They believe it’s normal, and even medically recommended, due to the quick and effective results they experience. Second, these young users are not turned off by side effects because they haven’t used steroids long enough to experience them yet, or because the appealing effects of the drug outweigh the bad ones.

The most frightening reason that users aren’t quitting is that steroid addiction has been officially related to eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. Users of the steroids keep using because even if they have met their original image goals, they still see themselves as the same or even worse than before they started using. They continue to make more intense body goals, which can lead to serious health issues .

Despite the staggering increase of steroid users in the UK, much less is known about steroids when compared to any other controlled substance. Even though the drug is banned under the same constrictions as other drugs such as cocaine or heroin, users don’t view themselves as addicts because of steroids association with health and nutrition. And because the selling and purchasing of steroids is not related to serious criminality, little action is being taken to cut off imports of the drug from other countries.

Although there has been talk all this may change before the 2012 Olympics in London.

What is Human Growth Hormone (HGH) ?

hGH is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pituitary gland and is one of the most important hormones influencing growth and development in humans.

hGH plays a major role in normal growth from birth to adulthood. It stimulates the liver and other tissues to secrete insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). IGF-1 stimulates production of cartilage cells, resulting in bone growth and also plays a key role in muscle growth.

Low hGH levels in children and teenagers can result in dwarfism. Excessive hGH secretion in children (which is extremely rare and usually resulting from a tumour of the pituitary gland) can result in giantism. In adults, some conditions (such as tumours) may cause excess secretion of hGH after puberty, and while this has little effect on skeletal growth, it can result in a condition known as acromegaly (abnormal growth of bones of the hands, feet and face).

Medically, hGH has been used to treat deficiency disorders in children and adults. Before 1985, hGH was primarily obtained from the pituitary glands of cadavers. The development of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (a degenerative brain disorder) in those who were treated with hGH produced in this way led to the discontinuation of all products derived from the human pituitary gland. This has led to development of artificial (recombinant) hGH (rhGH).

Medical preparations of hGH are usually a sterile white powder that is reconstituted and then injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly.

It is illegal to use hGH without a prescription in all parts of Australia. hGH is banned under the Olympic Movement’s World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited Classes of Substances and Prohibited Methods.

What are the perceived benefits?

The reported benefits of hGH include: the reversal of common diseases associated with ageing, improved brain activity and function, strengthening connective tissue which reduces the probability of injury, weight loss without any loss in lean mass, reduction of wrinkles by rejuvenating the skin, increasing energy levels and brightening mood, promotion of muscle growth, improved libido, improved lung function, provides immune system support and thymus function, and the ability to produce more individual muscle cells.
Some individuals use hGH because they perceive that it is as effective as anabolic steroids with fewer side effects, and is difficult to detect in a drug test. It is being used alone and in conjunction with other substances to induce anabolic effects, reduce muscle cell breakdown and reduce body fat. hGH seems to decrease body fat and increase fat-free mass. However, there is less evidence that these effects translate to increased strength, endurance and sporting performance.

PROLOR Biotech Granted EU GMP Certification For HGH-CTP

PROLOR Biotech, Inc. , a company developing next generation biobetter therapeutic proteins, announced that it has received formal Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification for hGH-CTP, the company’s proprietary biobetter version of human growth hormone. GMP certification is required by the European Union (EU) clinical trials legislation as a precondition for conducting clinical trials in EU member countries. Article 13 of 2001/20/EC of the EU clinical trials legislation was established to ensure, prior to the initiation of a clinical trial study in any EU member country, that the drug product to be used in such clinical trial study has been manufactured in accordance with EU GMP regulations and meets the conditions of the clinical trial authorization and the product specification file. PROLOR’s facilities for working with hGH-CTP, as well as those of the contract manufacturing organizations for the drug substance and drug product, were inspected and audited as part of the assessment process. “EU GMP certification is a rigorous process that we are delighted to have completed successfully,” said Abraham Havron, Ph.D., CEO of PROLOR. “Preparation for the manufacturing audit process and the audit itself were a top priority for the company and a critical milestone for the first half of 2010. This certification allows PROLOR to move forward with our hGH-CTP Phase II clinical trial, which we expect to initiate later this summer.” ABOUT hGH-CTP hGH-CTP is PROLOR’s proprietary biobetter version of human growth hormone. hGH is used for the long-term treatment of children and adults with growth hormone deficiency due to inadequate secretion of endogenous growth hormone. It is also sometimes used to counter involuntary weight loss and certain physical manifestations of aging. Currently available forms of hGH must be injected daily. In contrast, hGH-CTP is expected to require only bi-monthly or weekly injections. Current global sales of human growth hormone products are estimated at about $3 billion annually. ABOUT PROLOR BIOTECH PROLOR Biotech, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company applying unique technologies, including its patented CTP technology, primarily to develop longer-acting, biobetter, proprietary versions of already approved therapeutic proteins that currently generate billions of dollars in annual global sales. The CTP technology is applicable to virtually all proteins, and PROLOR is currently developing long-acting versions of human growth hormone, which is in clinical development, and interferon beta, factor VII, factor IX and erythropoietin, which are in preclinical development, as well as GLP-1 and other therapeutic peptides. Safe Harbor Statement: This press release contains forward-looking statements, which may be identified by words such as “expects,” “plans,” “projects,” “will,” “may,” “anticipates,” “believes,” “should,” “would”, “intends,” “estimates,” “suggests” and other words of similar meaning, including statements regarding the results of current clinical studies and preclinical experiments and the effectiveness of PROLOR’s long-acting protein programs, which are made pursuant to the safe harbor provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Investors are cautioned that forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties that may affect PROLOR’s business and prospects, including the risks that PROLOR may not succeed in generating any revenues or developing any commercial products, including any long-acting versions of human growth hormone, erythropoietin, interferon beta, GLP-1 and other products; that the long-acting products in development may fail, may not achieve the expected results or effectiveness and/or may not generate data that would support the approval or marketing of these products for the indications being studied or for other indications; that ongoing studies may not continue to show substantial or any activity; that the actual dollar amount of any grants from Israel’s Office of the Chief Scientist is uncertain and is subject to policy changes of the Israeli government, and that such grants may be insufficient to assist with product development; and other risks and uncertainties that may cause results to differ materially from those set forth in the forward-looking statements. The results of clinical trials in humans may produce results that differ significantly from the results of clinical and other trials in animals. The results of early-stage trials may differ significantly from the results of more developed, later-stage trials. The development of any products using the CTP platform technology could also be affected by a number of other factors, including unexpected safety, efficacy or manufacturing issues, additional time requirements for data analyses and decision making, the impact of pharmaceutical industry regulation, the impact of competitive products and pricing and the impact of patents and other proprietary rights held by competitors and other third parties. In addition to the risk factors described above, investors should consider the economic, competitive, governmental, technological and other factors discussed in PROLOR’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The forward-looking statements contained in this press release speak only as of the date the statements were made, and we do not undertake any obligation to update forward-looking statements, except as required under applicable law.

Policeman On Steroids Charges in Northumbria UK

A POLICEMAN has appeared in court in connection with alleged drug dealing. Police Constable Darren Gilbert Towers is said to have been involved in a plot to supply anabolic steroids.

The Northumbria Police officer appeared briefly at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to face three separate charges yesterday.

Towers, 41, is a competitive body builder who has taken part in competitions at a national level.

The powerfully-built police officer appeared in court smartly dressed and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Towers, of Jarrow, South Tyneside, has been suspended on full pay by bosses at Northumbria Police while the case progresses through the courts.

Towers faces one count of conspiring to supply a class C drug.

He faces two charges of willful misconduct in a public office, for which the maximum penalty, if found guilty, is life in prison.

Towers appeared in the dock alongside two other men.

Co-defendant Martin Robert Flett, 27, of Ely Way in Fellgate, Jarrow, faces one charge of conspiracy to supply a class C drug.

Martin Fannan, 34, of Hudson Avenue, Horden, near Peterlee in County Durham faces a similar charge.

Anabolic steroids fall into the category of Class C drugs – making them similar in status to prescribed tranquillisers. Details of the charges against all three men were not read out in court other than confirmation that the drugs allegedly involved were anabolic steroids.

None of the three men were asked to enter pleas and magistrates were told that because of the serious nature of the charges the matter would need to be committed directly to Crown court.

They will all have to appear at Newcastle Court on Thursday, July 8. The men were granted unconditional bail.

Towers didn’t speak to either of his co-defendants as he left court with his solicitor.

A statement from Northumbria Police said: “Darren Towers, 41, a serving Northumbria Police officer, has been charged with conspiracy to supply steroids and two counts of misconduct in a public office.

“Martin Flett, 27, of Ely Way, Fellgate, South Tyneside, and Martin Fannan, 34, of Hudson Avenue, Horden, County Durham, are both charged with conspiracy to supply steroids.”

Towers has publicly spoken about his bodybuilding in the past.

Back in 2006 he competed in the final of the UK National Bodybuilding Championships.

He revealed how he made it to the final of the competition by following a rigorous training regime and diet programme.

Towers revealed how he stuck religiously to a diet of protein rich foods including turkey, sweet potato, vegetables, rice, porridge in addition to protein supplements.

Apart from his eating programme, Towers revealed how he trained an average of six to seven days-a-week using a combination of gruelling weights sessions with cardiovascular workouts.

Most UK Doormen on Anabolic Steroids

“Security guard”. This term conjures up images of uniformed men, in employment for our personal protection when going to a museum, working in an office or visiting a hospital. But think of the word “bouncer” and you get an altogether different image.

Reporting to the Home Office, the Security Industry Authority is the independent monitoring body for Since it was founded in April  the UK 2003, the SIA has affirmed that the term “bouncer” is obsolete, saying the word “doorman” or “door supervisor” represents a more modern picture of the security industry.

This new vision of the industry, however, as being more monitored and professional, can be lamentably distant from the reality.

“The doormen mistook my boyfriend for another guy, they beat him to the ground and were just jumping on him in the car park,” said Rosie Medway, an NHS trainee nurse from Norwich, who a few months ago had a particularly rough encounter with a group of doormen. She requested that a false name be used in this piece. “I ran over to try to get them to stop and one of them punched me in the face. When the police arrived they just spoke to the bouncer, arrested me, my boyfriend, and the person who actually called 999.”

Unfortunately, this scenario is all too familiar to many people: there are hundreds of violent incidents implicating doormen occurring throughout the country every week. On most of these occasions doormen are not to blame, and are successful in resolving hostile situations in a professional manner; however, a large proportion of evidence still points to many doormen using brutal and excessive violence.

The year the SIA was founded, a Home Office study written by Mike Maguire and Hilary Nettleton reported that 61 members of door staff were apprehended by the police over a 30-month period (just over one per week) in Cardiff alone. The report said: “The roles and behaviour of door staff have never been far from controversy. Quite high numbers have been arrested for assaults against members of the public or the police and some have been suspected of drug dealing and other illegal activities.”

Little evidence suggests that things have changed greatly since the older days. The question to pose is what is being done about this abuse of the public? And what kind of an effect has the SIA had in successfully regulating the industry?

Lee Busson is a doorman who works in various security positions. He explained: “You do get the bad eggs in the bunch – security guards and doormen who are in it just for the fights. Some of them are on steroids, and deal drugs; and it’s these people who give the job a bad name.” Busson said that the SIA has made a big difference to the industry: “In the years before the SIA badge was introduced, the clubs and pubs would just hire anyone, so you had some really nasty types working. And now if anyone acts out of line the SIA can take the badge away and then it’s illegal to work.”

So it is true that the SIA has made an impact, not just in the way that the industry is viewed by the public, but with its procedures for checking criminal records and banishing offending doormen from the profession.

SIA representative Amy Balchin added: “Licensing means that the public are protected by trained, licensed and vetted individuals … door supervisors are seen as professional and often help police in tackling crime – for example working to exclude underage drinkers, or reduce violence.”

This is encouraging, and it is true that the thuggish bouncers of 15 or 20 years ago are less common – even if they have not vanished completely. There is still a malady in the security industry, and a worrying thought still lingers: where on the SIA records does the bouncer who punched Rosie Medway appear? Is he one of the violence-reducing ones?
